Ainu Artwork and Clothing

Ainu people would carve wood to make sculptures and art. Ainu produced carvings, weaving and embroidery of great beauty. The Ainu people wrote yukar (epic poems) and these were of great importance in their culture.

Ainu men often had long beards, and they would also wear a long tunic with large amounts of cloth underneath. Ainu women wore kimonos. These clothes were made out of bear fur but when they started trading with the Japanese for cotton they used cotton.
